Project Overview
The homeowners wanted lower utility bills and one system they wouldn't have to think about — without giving up comfort on the coldest nights.

The Challenge
Both the furnace and the air conditioner were near the end of their lives, the upstairs ran hot every summer, and the existing ducts were undersized for the second floor.
Our Solution
A room-by-room load calculation showed the home needed less capacity than the old system had. We installed a cold-climate heat pump with the furnace kept as backup (dual fuel), added two return air paths upstairs, and set up a smart thermostat to switch fuels automatically.
Equipment
- Cold-climate variable-speed heat pump
- 96% AFUE gas furnace (dual fuel)
- New upstairs returns
- Smart thermostat
